BIO

McKenzie hails from the swamps of North Carolina where she grew up singing three part harmony in a church choir with her sister and mother, a Celtic folk musician. At eight years old McKenzie wrote her first song, called "Rock Princess." Since then, she has continually cultivated the crafts of songwriting and live performance with a focus on creating musical community.

McKenzie's original music is a stir-fry of soul, blues, and roots influences with a folk aftertaste, emphasizing the storytelling tradition. Bringing you a quirky, welcoming, and intimate stage presence, McKenzie’s music will leave you feeling connected and musically sated. Good to you and good for you!

She received musical training in her undergraduate university's choir, theatrical training from workshops at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, NC Governor's School West, and was a National Shakespeare Competition semi-finalist. However, most of McKenzie's performance training comes from a life spent participating in jam sessions at festivals, on back porches, and around campfires. Having a regular yoga and meditation practice led McKenzie to begin performing improvisational acoustic new age/spiritual music at yoga studios and sacred music festivals. In addition to performing music, McKenzie curates community arts shows highlighting local talent, especially in Eastern North Carolina.
